January 28 - February 8, 2025
Franklin Christian Church, Tennessee
Franklin Christian Church sent ten people (and Merle from Wisconsin) to the Amazon River in Brazil to provide basic medical and dental cares to people who live in the Amazon Villages.
Day 1: Tuesday (28/01/25)
The Brazil Mission Trip Team traveling began in Nashville in the early morning. Our flights were from Nashville to Tampa to Panama City to Manaus. We boarded a bus and about 30 minutes later arrived at the Central Brazil Mission boat with excited hearts ready to serve and love the people living in the Amazon Villages. (About 24 hours of travel)
Day 2: Wednesday (29/01/25)
We began our first morning on the boat with prayer, devotion, and an information meeting with Michael Haubner (CBM trip leader). He discussed the CBM, travel routes on the Amazon River, and how our days would be structured as we do God’s work for the people who live in the villages.
The afternoon was full of teamwork. We spent several hours organizing, sorting, and counting medications and
supplies. Happiness was in the air as we were preparing to serve others.
Rest and quiet time gave us the opportunity to enjoy God’s beauty.
Traveling to São Sebastião Do Uatumã, we saw dolphins, a variety of birds, trees, cows, horses and chickens.
We ended the evening with a lesson from our Brazil mission trip journal, discussed how God is working in our lives, and prayer.
We docked and spent the night at São Sebastião Do Uatumã.
Day 3: Thursday (30/01/25)
The team toured the CBM greenhouse and the city of São Sebastião Do Uatumã. There were so many wonderful things to see and experience. Beautiful City!
The most exciting part of the day was being present at the meeting where Michael started his new role as president of Project Amazonas: Christ, Life and Health.
We also enjoyed listening to some worship music as Daniel Fernandes played the guitar.
It was so nice to talk with Santana and learn more about CBM. She also talked with us about her beautiful jewelry that she enjoys making to share and sell.
We then continued to tour São Sebastião Do Uatumã. The people were very friendly, full of smiles and warm greetings. We saw several different types of trees, animals, and birds.
It was so exciting to see Earl Haubner’s first CBM church, Igreja de Cristo no Uatuma.
God is Good!
The team then traveled on the Maripa River to Santa Helena, the first village we will visit and offer medical and dental services.
In the evening, we met and discussed our roles, tasks, and expectations in order to serve people in our first Amazon Village.
We also prepared our assigned stations and ensured we had supplies that were needed…all set and ready for the morning.
Day 4: Friday (31/01/25)
The team starts every morning with prayer and a delicious Brazilian breakfast with a variety choices. The meals are always delicious and nutritious.
We gather together on the top deck of the boat for songs, devotions, and prayers in English and Portuguese.
It was a very busy and exciting morning providing medical and dental care to the people who live in the Santa Helena Village.
Took a short lunch and enjoyed the rain. Refreshing!
The rest of the afternoon was spent sharing God’s love and serving the adults and children in the village.
Santa Helena: 44 medical visits, 13 dental visits, 29 dental procedures, 44 sunglasses, and 5 reading glasses.
Amazing Day! God is with us! (31/01/25)
Traveled to a brand new village for CBM, Igarapé-Açu. People from the village welcomed us with smiles and conversation.
The team spent some time in the village making connections and starting new relationships.
Finished our day with a lesson in our Brazil mission trip journal and prayer.
Spent the night docked at Igarapé-Açu.
Thank you Lord for a wonderful day!
Day 5: Saturday (01/02/25)
The team starts the daily routine with fellowship and a delicious Brazilian breakfast.
Every morning after breakfast on the top deck of the boat we sit in a circle and spend quality time singing songs English/Portugese, devotions, and prayers. Such a blessing!
Igarapé-Açu is the second village and also a new village for CBM. The team went into the village to meet new people. Sara (dentist) completed a dental presentation to get the children excited and interested in dental cares.
She talked about proper brushing and flossing. Adults and teens were also very interested in her dental presentation.
(Sara also did a dental presentation in our first village, Santa Helena.)
We carried out our daily assigned duties…serving others and showing God’s love through us.
People from other villages also come to the CBM boat by boat to be seen by the doctor and/or the dentist.
A Brazilian boat crew member sets up a table and chairs in each village. She talks with each person and discusses if they want to see the doctor, dentist or both. They have separate cards for each specialty.
They are then called to come to the CBM boat. FCC has a person as a greeter to welcome them. They take off their shoes before entering the boat (lots of sand).
FCC team members also greeted them and organized their needs. We took B/P, weight (sometimes height) on the adults. Children needed height and weight measurements (head circumference on babies).
Some adults needed or requested to have their vision screened for reading glasses.
Sunglasses were also given to adults. Children received sunglasses in their goody bags.
Michael (translator Portuguese to English) works with Woody, MD (FCC) in the doctor’s room. They work together and communicate with the people and their families to determine diagnosis, health concerns and any needed medications. Medications are given by the pharmacy, which is stocked mostly by donations.
The pharmacy and a FCC team member work together to provide the medications ordered by the physician or the dentist. They also spend time educating and instructing on the proper use of each medication.
The dentist has a team member (Merle) help her with dental procedures.
Dental cleanings, fillings, and tooth extractions are common dental procedures offered on the CBM boat.
FCC team members passed out goody bags to each child. The bags are filled with a flashlight, rubber duck, sunglasses, sucker, and a Jesus Loves You bracelet. The kids love them! The adults and families also received a bag with hygiene supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, hygiene supplies, and a washcloth). They also helped to ensure each person received everything they needed (attended their dental visit, received their medications from the pharmacy, and their goody bags).
Pastor Agostinho would pray with each person and family before they left the CBM boat.
Saturday afternoon we finished completing medical and dental cares in Igarapé-Açu.
Igarapé-Açu: 57 medical visits, 17 dental visits, 32 dental procedures, 57 sunglasses, and 3 reading glasses.
So many Blessings! God is with us! (01/02/25)
We then traveled and arrived at our third village, Santa Eteuvina.
We docked and spent the night at Santa Eteuvina.
Day 6: Sunday (02/02/25)
A delicious Brazilian breakfast is a great way to begin the day!
Portuguese and English songs, devotion, prayers, and communion.
Worshiping with Christians from two different countries, with two different languages, and two different cultures…God is here with us in the Amazon!
The team talked with people in the Santa Eteuvina Village.
Sara (Dentista) demonstrated proper dental cares: brushing and flossing teeth.
The team had a very busy morning providing medical and dental cares to the people at our third village. One of the best things on the CBM boat is the smiles shared between the team providing cares and the people receiving cares. Doing God’s work and sharing His love brings so much joy!
Santa Eteuvina: 32 medical visits, 8 dental visits, 19 dental procedures, 32 sunglasses, and 8 reading glasses.
God is our guide!

Cubuaca: 27 medical visits, 9 dental visits, 26 dental procedures, 27 sunglasses, and 9 reading glasses.
Thank you God for blessing us and giving us the opportunity to bless others!
It was a very busy day. After we finished at Cubuaca, we traveled to Caranauaca, where the boat crew docked the boat and spent the night.
Day 7: Monday (03/02/25)
The food is amazing on the CBM boat. The chefs are so talented and creative. There is so much variety and the Brazilian food they prepare is so delicious!
It was a rainy morning, but it was also refreshing.
We sang several songs this AM. It is so much fun, but also very uplifting. Singing, devotions and prayers in English and Portuguese helps the FCC team connect with the CBM boat crew team.
Caranauaca, our fifth village kept us very busy with: 40 medical visits , 15 dental visits, 47 dental procedures, 40 sunglasses, and 4 reading glasses.
Started our day with a rain storm. Later on the sun came out and it was a beautiful and warm afternoon!
We left Caranauaca and arrived at Amaro, our sixth village in the afternoon.
Amaro: 6 medical visits, 2 dental visits, 4 dental procedures,
6 sunglasses, and 2 pair of reading glasses. Smaller number of people seen, but still very special. Each village has its own unique style! Truly Amazing!

Spent the night and woke up in Caiauá.
Began our daily routine of prayer and a delicious Brazilian breakfast. Meals are such a special time for fellowship.
Our daily cup of God’s love is always refilled every morning with worship songs, inspirational devotions, prayers and thanks to God our Father in English and Portuguese!
Rainy windy storm today, but it didn’t slow us down. We provided cares and love all morning and afternoon at Caiauá.
The dental room was very busy and they worked until late afternoon/early evening. Beautiful smiles of appreciation!
We traveled just across the river to a peninsula where we spent the night.
The peninsula time was very special! The team and boat crew explored the peninsula, took pictures, and shared conversations and laughter. It was a great time to relax and enjoy bonding with the Brazilian boat crew. Memories for a Lifetime!

Thank you God for a wonderful day!
Day 9 Wednesday (05/02/25)
After spending the night at the peninsula, we started our travel to the Reserva (our 8th stop).
The Reserva has a special building with information about the Amazon River area, including the types of animals and birds in the area.
We left the Reserva around lunch time and traveled to our last village, Inajatuba.
This was the last and the largest village. The flow of people was very smooth as we provided cares to over 70 people.
Exciting and heart fulfilling day!
It was a sunny and beautiful boat ride to São Sebastião Do Uatumã.
God has created so many wonderful things in this beautiful world!
The dentist room provided cares to a family in São Sebastião Do Uatumã before the day ended.
We spent the night at São Sebastião Do Uatumã.
So fun and interesting to see the people and boats at the dock. Always something to see and something new to learn.

Delicious Brazilian breakfast and fellowship with team members. Everyone on this Brazil Mission Trip is truly amazing!
A few of the Brazilian boat crew members left for their homes while we were in São Sebastião Do Uatumã.
There is a feeling of sadness when they said goodbye.
Time together on the CBM boat is so special and they take a piece of our hearts when they depart!
Santana came to visit us on the boat. It was so fun to look at and purchase some of her beautiful homemade jewelry.
Great way to end our time in São Sebastião Do Uatumã.
We had a great day of rest and enjoying God’s beauty as we traveled to Manaus. The Amazon is beautiful! We enjoyed seeing birds, trees, water, homes, boats, dolphins and so much more on our trip back to Manaus.
Day 11: Friday (07/02/25)
Our last delicious Brazilian breakfast was amazing!
So exciting to see Meeting of Waters where the Rio Negro/Black River meets the Amazon River/ Solimões River. Amazing Sight!
The team spent time shopping in Manaus. We saw a big market where they sold all kinds of foods. Very busy place. Walked around the city to different stores to purchase souvenirs. Michael was very helpful guiding us to see some of the neat items Brazil has to offer.
We enjoyed our last Brazilian lunch. The chefs on the CBM cook some of the best food, so talented!
We traveled to the boat house where we docked. We spent the afternoon enjoying our last evening together on the CBM boat.
We had so much fun watching dolphins swim by, active fish jumping out of the water, and beautiful birds.
It was very special when we took a smaller boat ride to see different parts of the river. Each area on the Amazon River seems to have its own unique qualities.
We enjoyed fellowship, Brazilian grilled meats and sides, and a delicious cake with ice cream.
