GREETINGS

MISSION STATEMENT:

We base the philosophy of our ministry on Mathew 28:18-20 and Ephesians 4:7-16. “ TO MAKE DISCIPLES, MAKE BETTER DISCIPLES AND YOU WILL MAKE MORE DISCIPLES.”

NOVO HORIZONTE MINISTRY:

The Novo Horizonte Ministry is preparing God’s people for ministry. Our main task is that of reaching others for Christ, making disciples of them and establishing and planting new churches by using our own-trained national leadership. This ministry has grown to over 80 churches and more than 10,000 members. We have probably seen more than fifty thousand individuals baptized into Christ during these 56 years. All of the churches have national Brazilian preachers and leaders. Each church has now become self-supporting, self-governing and self-propagating. In addition, almost all of them have their own church building and properties; working together, they continue to multiply both disciples and churches.

MINISTRIES:

The Novo Horizonte Ministry involves many individuals and different projects for meeting the needs of people. We have many discipleship training programs. A lot of emphasis is placed on “One-on-One Discipleship.” We provide professional counseling services and different support groups. Our 100 acre Shalon Camp is used almost every weekend during the year.

BOAT - CBM

PROJECT AMAZONAS: CHRIST, LIFE AND HEALTH:

C.B.M. with its “Project Amazonas: Christ, Life and Health” is giving much attention and emphasis to the Amazon Region of Brazil. A boat was purchased and remodeled and has been used almost monthly for ten day trips since March, 2000 when we made our first trip. This Amazon Boat Ministry is reaching and helping people that live in villages along the many tributaries of the Amazon River. A new medical boat (CBM Amazonia) was inaugurated in January 2012. The boat is equipped with both medical and dental clinics as well as a pharmacy that has most all medications that are needed by the villagers. There are air-conditioned sleeping quarters for over 25 individuals plus the top area for another 15 people that enjoy sleeping in (redes) hammocks. We take doctors, Brazilian dentists, nurses, and evangelistic teams on almost all trips and sometimes construction crews. We are providing better health and making possible a better life for these villagers as well as teaching them about Christ and planting churches. During these almost 26 years we have treated thousands of children and adults. Many health problems have been solved, Christ has been preached, villages and lives transformed and churches started. There is a fulltime crew of nine (9) individuals that go on each trip. There is a single missionary woman working with this project besides twenty five (25) native missionary families in remote villages. There are now 30 “Project Amazon” churches in different villages and we probably have another 10 new villages right now waiting and wanting a church.

In São Sebastião we have the “Greenhouse Project” that is helping church families with a better diet and health habits as well as producing a small income for those working at the project.

We have a new church in the Mocumbo region in the county of Parintins that will become another training center for making disciples that will reach many new villages in the area.

We also have the concentrated juice factory in the Buçusal Village that is beginning to produce the fruit that will make the juice as well as provide jobs for some of the villagers. It is also encouraging nearby farmers to raise the fruit that will then be sold to the factory for making more juice.

CBM-PLANE

Expanding CBM’s Ministry in the Amazon Through Aviation with a Bearhawk

For 26 years Central Brazil Mission – Amazonas Christ, Life & Health has been able to reach, provide care, build relationships, disciple leaders and start churches through our boat ministry. As CBM expands its ministry in reaching more villages, communities and tribes, we have identified a need that could help us improve our ministry to be more effective through cost, time and distance. This method has been proven very effective with other Christian organizations working in the Amazon region. We would be able to continue ministering all year around. When the water level of the rivers begins to lower between the months of October and January we cannot operate our boat due to safety reasons so it is a time where our trips are stopped. During this time, it gives our boat crew time to do any maintenance needed on the boat whether it be painting, engine maintenance, updates or required inspections.

Aviation has long been used to cover large distances in a short period. In addition to other functions, air support, carrying medicine, supplies and rescues in emergencies, it has also proved to be very effective in transporting to hard-to-reach locations, allowing one to be able to cover an increasingly larger area. Hundreds of mission flights are carried out annually taking pastors, doctors, dentists, nurses, and finally a multitude of support to distant communities and villages on the rivers, in addition to dozens of rescues in cases of medical emergency, where there is no time to lose or could cost a life.

After several years of research, studies, visiting and counselling, we concluded that we needed an amphibious aircraft that would help us in our mission and goals. We have selected the “Bearhawk model 5” for its capability and known robustness among pilots.

This is a truly usable plane! Cockpit dimensions are slightly larger than the familiar Cessna 185 and includes a large cargo are that has its own huge cargo door for access.

Payload ranges from 1100-1500 lbs. depending on engine configuration. The 50-gallon main fuel tanks can be refilled for a range of 500-700 nautical miles depending on engine economy, and four full-sized adults can be transported, with room for 250 pounds of baggage or cargo. In addition to other notable features, the Experimental Airplane is easy to maintain, which allows us to carry out maintenance at a low cost.

Now comes the big challenge. We need to raise $350,000 for the purchase, import, assembly, flight equipment, and documentation of the aircraft in Brazil, but we firmly believe that nothing is impossible for God, as he is the owner of all things. The advantage of having an aircraft of this size are huge, to the point that it produces hundreds of times more in support than the amount invested in the acquisition.

The new plane will be able to fulfill the most different missions of transport and air support for the missionaries and riverside communities of the great Amazon region, accelerating the implantation of the kingdom of God in the rivers and cities of the region.

Cities & Communities Travel Time Boat Flight Time
Manaus to Sao Sebastiao 16 hours 35 minutes
Sao Sebastiao to Manaus 18 hours 40 minutes
Sao Sebastiao to Mocambo 7 hours 13 minutes

Many interested individuals from some of our supporting churches have come to help us on different trips. We need this kind of cooperation as we plan to have at least 50 churches in the Amazon Region alone by the end of 2030.
