AMAZON BOAT TRIP

AMAZON BOAT TRIP – MAY 6-16, 2026

By: Margaret Askew

The journey into the Amazon unfolded as a powerful testimony to service, connection and faith. What began as a gathering of eight individuals quickly transformed into a unified mission, driven by a shared calling to serve. Thousands of prayers were said and shared for our team d over 900 pounds of supplies were donated.

Ten days, nine villages and 669 people were touched by CBM. Beyond the numbers, the heart of the mission was found through the people. The Brazilian communities welcomed the team with open arms, offering hugs, smiles and genuine gratitude that transcended any language barrier. Though words were often unspoken, connection came easily, proving a simple smile can indeed be universal.

For many, the most meaningful moments came through personal encounters in the villages. These interactions revealed not only the warmth and resilience of the Amazonian people but also the deep sense of unity within their communities. Their respect between generations, the care shared among families, and the harmony in the daily life left a lasting impression. Even for some who grew up in Brazil, the Amazon still held surprises – new insights and experiences that made the journey both enlightening and unforgettable.

CBM itself is a remarkable organization with purpose. A floating clinic providing medical and dental care for large numbers of people. The team worked seamlessly, creating an environment where service flowed naturally. Beyond the physical work, the daily testimonies from the CBM team added a spiritual depth to the experience, offering moments of reflection that were both authentic and meaningful.

Equally impactful were the relationships that formed within the team. Old friendships were rekindled; new ones were built and cultural lines between Brazilians and Americans faded. Each person carried their own story – some shared openly, others held quietly but together we formed a collective narrative of faith and service. What began as a group of eight individuals ended as if we were all family.

At its’s core, Jesus said Come... and we went. Guided by faith, we embraced the truth of Mathhew 11:30 “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Trust became the foundation to love and serve. In the end, this was more than just a trip, it was a life changing experience. A reminder of the power of compassion, the beauty of human connection and the impacts of answering the call to serve. As one team member said… Let’s go and do something meaningful with our humanism…
